Intestinal Problems

The intestines as a whole are one huge 25 ft tube responsible for the majority of water and nutrient absorption. Their job is to discriminate what to keep, and what to let go of.
So in terms of the metaphysical metaphor if we replace the word ‘nutrients’ with ‘emotions’ it becomes clearer to see why we get so many issues effecting our gut.

We learn our emotional reactions from our caregivers as babies and small children. Inconsistencies in the messages we are given mean that we can’t learn (digest & absorb) what is good for us, what is appropriate, what is healthy.

These inconsistencies can be subtle, such as the parent who doesn’t express their emotion and yet the child feels it, knowing something is not right.
Or they can be huge boundary violations such as in cases of trauma/addiction/abuse.

The gut feels everything but doesn’t always know how to process what’s coming in.

Our ‘gut’ instinct is often overridden by our head. We can’t trust the messages we receive because in the past we were hurt by the instability or lack of support from the people who were supposed to keep us safe.

Holding onto negativity may be a defence pattern for those with gut problems because to be vulnerable, hurt or exposed has been the result of loving and trusting in the past.
This stems from insincerity, tension, misunderstanding within family dynamics.
