The Emotional Root Cause of Hyperthyroidism

The Energetic Role of the Thyroid Gland

The thyroid sits energetically in the throat chakra.
It represents your right to speak.

The role of this gland is to maintain a homeostatic balance, when the thyroid becomes hyper or hypo, then the balance has been tipped.

In Hyperthyroidism the metabolism accelerates, creating urgency, activity and heat.

Why Would My Thyroid Become HYPER?

There may have been a feeling of pressure leading up to this imbalance manifesting.
A pressure to ‘do’, achieve or be busy. This could be a coping mechanism adopted from a young age, being busy/ achieving = more love/ acknowledgement or validation from caregivers.
Failure may have meant rejection.

I have seen this problem manifest after a shock such as an accident or bereavement. An intense situation where the body does not know how to process the intense and sudden painful emotions.

The coping mechanism of ‘doing’ kicks in. Taking control, and taking action is the way of dealing with the situation. It is a survival response of the nervous system.

The body is filled with overwhelming emotions that this person has no resources to process because childhood patterns have never allowed for any safe expression of emotion.

The Emotional Background of Hyperthyroidism

A lack of loving words and unconditional support may sit at the foundation of this physical issue.

Criticism and judgement from those that you needed unconditional love from, could be one of the patterns that showed up in childhood.

Conditional love based on achievement, success and other external factors such as appearance may still be repeating in life, perpetuating the problem and creating more urgency. All you ever need and want is to be loved for who you are, but in its lack, resentment can build. Anger and self-condemnation often lurk in the background eating away at your self-esteem.

Communicating is often an issue; in an attempt to avoid conflict, words may get stuck in your throat, ironically attracting more judgement from others and more internal pressure.

They may spill out in defensiveness at times which gives little relief.
The result is a feeling of spinning out of control and losing internal balance.

The path to healing is to be found in cultivating stillness and recognising the patterns that have kept you safe in the past but now would benefit from being addressed.

Expressing boundaries, self-care and slowing down are all essential healing tools.
